It’s official! My classroom is COMPLETELY set up and ready to rock and roll for 2014-2015! And yet, standing here in the doorway of a polished, welcoming classroom, I feel a bit bittersweet this year. You see, there’s only one thing that will be missing on that magical, memorable first day of school in August…Me teaching and embracing a room full of brand new, bright-eyed STUDENTS! This is the first “first day of school” in eleven years of teaching that I will miss… the first time that I won’t be able to claim my class list of sweet faces as “my kids,” and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just the tiniest bit disappointed.
However, trumping my disappointment is the overwhelming JOY that I’ll be welcoming our new son, Beau Wyatt, into the world in just a couple days. I know that my weeks with him will be filled with kisses, snuggles, overwhelming love, and many adjustments as we grow from a family of three to a family of four. I can’t wait to savor every moment with him, and I know my days with him will never be long enough.
My amazing teaching partner and full time Gifted Resource Coordinator, Kristi, will be welcoming my sweet first and second graders into her classroom and schedule for the first twelve weeks of the year. Until that time, my classroom will remain empty and ready to embrace learning and life. Upon my return in November, I am thrilled to jump head first into my NEW teaching position as GRC for grades K-2 as I pull enrichment groups throughout the week, and even MORE thrilled that I’ll be assuming this position on a part-time schedule. This borders on perfection during these precious years, as I spend my mornings loving on my babies at home and afternoons feeding my passion for teaching. Although my groups of students will not officially be “my kids” in my classroom, all day and every day, I will love them as such and squeeze as much knowledge and character into their brains during my time with them!
So today, I share my classroom with you, and anxiously await the moment when I can share it with many little learners this fall!
