Happy New Year, teacher friends!! I am so excited to be linking up with my sweet, talented, superstar teacher friends, Angie Olson from Lucky Little Learners and Ashley Schroeder from Schroeder Shenanigans to share our plans, goals, hopes, and dreams for 2016 for #2getherwearebetter.
I hope you are feeling rested, rejuvenated, and ready for a joyful and prosperous year!
2015 was a WILD ride for me, to say the least! We bought a new home close to the school where I teach, my Ellie started Pre K, and Andy started a new job. Over the summer, I boosted my TpT business to a whole new level when I started connecting with teachers through Periscope, Instagram, and Twitter. By the end of the year, I had more than tripled my TpT earnings as compared to 2014, and all of a sudden, I realized that this little hobby of mine had all of a sudden become a VERY serious business. I immediately consulted my financial advisor (who so happens to be my awesome and brilliant dad!) and together, we set up a business plan for the new year.
GOAL #1: Set up LLC, S-Corp, and Separate Business Accounts
I know, I know, how incredibly BORING does that all sound?! But truthfully, the latter half of 2015 was a bit of a nightmare for us in terms of taxes. All of a sudden, I had to start saving larger chunks of profits and taxes quarterly, and needless to say, my ducks were NOT in a row as they should have been. I’m starting 2016 on the right foot by keeping business and personal expenses as streamlined and separate as possible. I’ve got spreadsheets ready to track business expenses and log hours worked on TpT related business and a fantastic MasterMind group that has given me sound and wise business advice. I’m in the process of filing paperwork for an LLC and S-Corp as well. That’s right…Brooke Brown, LLC is coming very soon! In 2016, it will be essential that I am mindful and organized about managing my business. Wish me luck! The businessy side of TpT is harder for me to prioritize because the creating side is WAY more fun!
GOAL #2: Bring teachoutsidethebox.com ALL THE WAY!
I finally took the plunge in December and purchased my own domain, transferring all my Blogger content over to the fabulous and beautiful teachoutsidethebox.com. The process was MUCH more complicated that I anticipated, and WordPress definitely has a learning curve that I’m anxious to jump on. I have about a million “microgoals” for my new website, and hope to work my way through them and use my site to it’s full potential. Here are a few of my goals for my website:
1) Learn the tricks and capabilities of WordPress
2) Set up products to sell directly from my site using WooCommerce
3) Blog weekly
GOAL #3: Balance and Prioritize Social Media
As far as my involvement with Periscope, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook, my goal is to MAINTAIN commitment on all platforms, but also find a more healthy BALANCE. Two Periscopes per week and my Sunday night #tptchat have become my “must dos,” but on top of daily posts for all other social media, that often leaves other priorities behind, including product creation time and most importantly, precious time with my family. I know and can and should reprioritize and give something up. Some days and weeks, it’s definitely harder to stay connected, and in all honestly, I’d LOVE to discover some time savers on all platforms so as to maximize my business potential but NOT to distract too much from my personal life. If you have any suggestions or maybe even a volunteer virtual assistant, please send them my way! 😉
I’d love to hear about your goals, hopes, and dreams for 2016! Please share them in the comments below, and thank you for stopping by!
