STEM read alouds: common questions

What is a STEM read aloud?

A picture book paired with a hands-on STEM challenge. You read the book, then students build, test and talk about a problem from the story. Every STEM read aloud lesson here includes the lesson plan, student instructions, a photo example, a class discussion chart, key vocabulary, video links and a student template.

What grades are these STEM read alouds for?

Most lessons are tagged kindergarten to 3rd grade on TPT and many run to 5th; each card shows its grade range. The Pre-K and Kindergarten edition is written for the youngest students, and the Novels tab is for grades 3 to 6.

Do I need the book?

Yes. The books are not included in the lessons. Each card links to the book on Amazon, and most of these titles can also be found as read aloud videos on YouTube if you cannot get a copy.

Which bundle should I start with?

The 59-lesson bundle holds every edition on this page. If you want single-book lessons, the Favorites bundle collects 30 of the most-used ones. Each season tab starts with its own bundle, so you can also buy one season at a time.
