Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

This policy explains what information Teach Outside the Box collects when you visit teachoutsidethebox.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it simple: we collect only what we need to run the website, send the emails you ask for, and understand which resources are helpful to teachers.

Who we are

Teach Outside the Box is run by Brooke Brown and Teach Outside the Box, LLC, based in Norman, Oklahoma, USA. Questions about this policy or your information: brooke@teachoutsidethebox.com.

Where purchases happen

We no longer sell or take payments on this website. Product pages link to our store on Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT), and purchases there are handled by TpT under TpT’s own privacy policy. We do not see your payment details. If you bought from our website in the past, we keep those order records as required for tax and accounting.

Information you give us

  • Email newsletter. If you sign up for freebies or our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. Our email list is managed by Mailchimp. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time.
  • Contact form. If you write to us through the website, we collect your name, email address, and message so we can reply.
  • Comments. If you comment on a post, we collect the name, email, and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Comments are checked for spam on our own server. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email is not. WordPress may check whether your email has a Gravatar profile picture (a service run by Automattic).
  • Accounts from our former shop. If you created an account when we sold on this site, we keep the details you provided until you ask us to delete them.

Information collected automatically

  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used: which pages are visited, how visitors found us, the type of device and browser, approximate location (city or region), and clicks on the “Buy on TpT” button. Google provides this to us as statistics; we do not use it to identify you. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
  • Website hosting and security. Our host (BigScoots) and its security service keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser, and pages requested) to keep the site fast and safe from attacks.
  • Image delivery. Images on the site are delivered by ShortPixel’s image service, which receives your IP address in order to send the images to your browser.

Cookies and your privacy settings

Cookies are small files saved in your browser. We use them for three things: essential cookies that make the site work and remember your cookie choice; statistics cookies (Google Analytics); and the newsletter sign-up pop-up (Mailchimp). When you first visit, our cookie banner explains how we use cookies. You can review your choices at any time with the “Privacy Settings” link at the bottom of every page.

Affiliate links

Some posts recommend classroom supplies using affiliate links, including LTK (rewardStyle), Amazon Associates, and similar programs. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. When you click an affiliate link, that company (and the store you land on) may set its own cookies to credit the sale. We do not receive your name or contact details from these programs, only anonymous sales totals.

Embedded content and links to other sites

Posts may include videos, documents, or other content from sites such as YouTube or Google Drive, and links to sites such as Teachers Pay Teachers, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Those sites may collect data and use cookies under their own privacy policies, just as if you had visited them directly.

How we use your information

  • To send the emails and freebies you asked for
  • To answer your messages
  • To keep the website secure and working
  • To understand which posts and resources are most helpful
  • To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising tracking pixels (such as Facebook, Pinterest, or Google Ads tags) on this website.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that run the website for us: our web host (BigScoots), Mailchimp (email), Google (analytics), ShortPixel (images), and our email delivery service for contact-form messages. Each handles the information only to provide its service. We may also share information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to help you, then deleted within 2 years
  • Comments: as long as the comment is on the site
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months
  • Past order records: as long as tax and accounting rules require

Children

This website is written for teachers and parents. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, or certain US states such as California), you may have additional rights, including the right to object to or restrict how we use your information and to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, email brooke@teachoutsidethebox.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Keeping your information safe

The website uses a secure (https) connection, and access to our accounts is limited and protected. No method of storing or sending information online is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you share with us.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
