This week I used the Wind Powered Maze for 3rd-5th STEAM classes, and they loved it! During research, they especially liked talking about and seeing the wind turbines. I modified the challenge by giving each group a balloon pump instead of a straw. Worked great! I also used the rainbow bridge challenge this week for 1st and 2nd. I saw a lot more unusual bridges than I expected, given the simple challenge, but I certainly loved that they were thinking creatively! -Amy F.

Your stem challenges are always a hit. I do have to omit (the Leprechaun trap) or tweak a few because of our district has a “no holiday” policy. So sometimes simply doing the challenge in a different month takes away any holiday reference. But no matter when and how I do them, these challenges are thorough providing excellent background building information, vocabulary development, and a well-thought-out stem challenge with a literacy link. Thank you. -Kathie G.

Great unit for STEM. I can use this with my first graders in class and with my third graders I teach in an after school program. -Kerri Buckner

As always, another hit with my students. They were eager to discover and built. I appreciate all the educational additions to the activity itself. -Casey B.

learning by the lake –
We have one day a week with no specials and try to fill that hour of time with something engaging and fun, yet also educational. This was the PERFECT activity to use in the month of March. The students not only learned about force + motion, but also about persevering through frustrations, too! -learning by the lake

So much fun! I gathered and sent home all the materials for the rainbow bridge! Great success. Kids thoroughly enjoyed. Hope to use the other activities in person next year. -Lacey W.

My students loved this activity! They were so engaged and I loved watching their little brains working to solve the problems. I also love that you always include videos and resources that students can use as reference and also to teach the concepts. Thanks! -Meredith D.

My speech students had a great time with this unit. The vocabulary was awesome and I had the students verbalize the sequence of building the bridge using the new vocabulary. It was interesting to watch some of the students nervous to take risks in their designs, because they didn’t want to “be wrong.” -Jasmine R.
