Learning with Loti-Bot

A NEW robot has arrived in our Makerspace!

Many of you know how much I love using Bee-Bot robots in my K-2nd Grade classroom. They were my first experience with beginning coding concepts, and the first robot that I was brave enough to introduce to my students almost ten years ago. Bee-Bots are still going strong in my classroom today, which is why I was so excited to try out the next generation of TTS robots for elementary students.

Meet Loti-Bot

Loti-Bot is the perfect bridge from early coding with Bee-Bot to more advanced programming. Students bring Loti-Bot to life with student friendly block-based coding in the Loti-Bot app, with a visual format that is similar to Scratch. Loti-Bot can be shared by 2-3 students, and even works with existing Bee-Bot grid mats and supplements.

Here are just a few of Loti-Bot’s features:

  • LEDs
  • Bumper sensors and Proximity sensors
  • Adjustable pen holder (Flair pens fit perfectly!)
  • Microphone and Speaker with 20 Pre-loaded sounds
  • Buddy Detection Sensor (which detects other Loti-Bots, Blue-Bot and Bee-Bot!)
  • Cliff sensor – prevents Loti from falling off the edge of the table
  • Graduated Programming Environment.

Math + Art Integration

Loti-Bot is packed with interactive features, but right out of the box, my personal favorite was the highly accurate drawing capabilities. My wheels immediately started turning with all the math enrichment possibilities related to measurement and geometry!

The Loti-Bot drawing feature can be integrated with the following math concepts:

  • Measurement
  • Polygons
  • Angles
  • Area and Perimeter

Students can also program Loti-Bot’s LED lights, sounds, and movements with the simple drag-and-drop block coding interface.

Differentiated Learning

Students can choose between two levels of coding difficulty: Level 1 (pictures/icons) or Level 2 (text-based coding). Since I teach multiple grade levels and abilities, this makes it easy for me to differentiate learning for my students. Level 2 offers a wide variety of coding features, sensors, and variables that are perfect for more advanced coders.

Loti-Bot Lessons

You can find a variety of downloadable activity guides, lesson ideas, and curriculum alignment on the Loti-Bot website.

I’m so excited to introduce Loti-Bot to my students soon!
